Hawaiian lei decorate the stone memorial dedicated to the service members who sacrificed their lives in Operation Red Wings. Service members and family members based in Hawaii commemorated the 8th anniversary of the event that claimed the lives of 11 SEALs and eight Soldiers from the U.S. Army 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) in Afghanistan's Hindu Kush during the operation by completing a five-mile formation run. Former Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy Duane Bushey speaks to first class petty officers and chief petty officers at Commander, Navy Reserve Forces Command. Bushey was invited by the command's Chief's Mess to speak to during a recent CPO-365 training session to share his experiences in the Navy and how it has evolved from the time he enlisted in 1962 through his time as the Navy's seventh MCPON from 1988-1992. Benjamin Armstrong, author of 21st Century Mahan: Sound Military Conclusions from the Modern Era, signs copies of his book after giving a lecture at the National Museum of the United States Navy. The book is a collection of five of Mahan's essays, along with Armstrong's introductions and illustrations as to why Mahan's work remains relevant to the 21st century.
